Remove news-penifi.com notifications

news-penifi.com is a deceptive website that tries to trick users into allowing ads on the desktop. When you get redirected to the site, you will immediately get a browser alert saying “news-penifi.com wants to show notifications”. If you click “Allow”, you will start getting ads on the desktop. This feature allows sites with permission to show notifications but instead of showing anything useful, sites like news-penifi.com simply spam ads. It’s worth mentioning that some of those ads could expose users to dangerous content, including scams and malware.

The website news-penifi.com features nothing but a black image and a message saying you need to click “Allow” on a browser notification that says “news-penifi.com wants to show notifications” in order to watch the video. It’s likely that users end up on sites like news-penifi.com while trying to access copyrighted content through illegal streaming sites, mistakenly thinking that clicking “Allow” will allow them to watch whatever they were trying to. In reality, clicking “Allow” will allow the site to show desktop advertisements. These ads may be particularly misleading, as they can mimic legitimate system notifications, tricking users into interacting with them. A frequent ad shown by sites like news-penifi.com is a fake virus alert that looks like it’s shown by the local anti-virus program. Engaging with these fake alerts can lead users to dubious websites that promote questionable software or even contain malware.

If news-penifi.com has permission to show notifications, you need to revoke this permission right away and avoid clicking on any notifications in the meantime. Instructions for doing this can be found at the end of this report. Additionally, since these redirects may indicate adware on your system, we recommend scanning your computer with the WiperSoft anti-virus program.

Why are you redirected to sites like news-penifi.com?

When you visit websites that are loaded with ads and don’t use an adblocker, it’s common to get unexpected redirects when clicking on anything. These sites aim to overwhelm users with advertisements to generate revenue, and those with adult or pirated content are especially notorious for this behavior. However, a reliable adblocker program should effectively block both the ads and the redirects.

If you start noticing more ads and redirects, particularly on previously ad-free sites, it could be a sign of an adware infection. While adware is generally considered a minor threat, the sheer volume of ads it spams will very quickly become annoying. Adware and browser hijackers are often installed via a method known as software bundling. This method allows unwanted programs to be bundled with popular free software. They are added as extra offers and users need to specifically opt out of them to prevent their installations. Although users have the option to decline these extra offers, the offers are hidden, which makes software bundling a deceptive installation method. It’s very common for programs that use it to be detected as potential threats by anti-virus programs.

To avoid unwanted installations, be careful when installing free programs. During installation, users are given the choice between Default and Advanced settings. The Default settings, which are recommended by the installation window, will install all bundled offers automatically without your consent. Advanced settings, on the other hand, will display each offer, allowing you to uncheck any that you do not wish to install. We strongly recommend you uncheck all offers, regardless of how useful they may initially seem, to keep your computer free from junk.
