Remove mobitera.online notifications
mobitera.online is a scam website that displays a fake security alert and tries to trick users into allowing ads on the desktop. The fake alert claims that your computer has suffered a DDoS attack and is now infected with viruses. The site also wants to spam ads on your desktop. It tries to do that by misusing a legitimate browser feature that allows sites to show notifications on users’ desktops. But instead of useful notifications, mobitera.online will spam ads if you click “Allow”. Fortunately, even if you give the site permission to show notifications, it’s not difficult to revoke it in your browser’s settings.
At the moment, mobitera.online displays a fake security alert that claims “Your PC has been DDoS attacked and infected with viruses”. This misleading notification mimics an anti-virus scan by McAfee and shows fake results, suggesting multiple infections on your device. The scammers behind these fake virus alerts are usually exploiting the affiliate programs of legitimate anti-virus vendors, in this case – McAfee. However, these anti-virus programs have no association with the fake alerts. For future reference, pay no attention to these virus alerts that appear in your browser as they will always be fake. Your browser cannot detect viruses on your computer.
You will also get a browser alert saying “mobitera.online wants to show notifications” when you enter the website. If you click “Allow”, you’ll permit the site to send ads to your desktop, which will appear as notifications on the right side of your screen. These notifications may closely resemble genuine system alerts to deceive users into engaging with them. If you have permitted notifications from this site, do not click on them to avoid being redirected to unsafe sites that may conceal malware or promote scams. Fortunately, revoking notification permissions is easy through your browser settings. Detailed instructions are provided at the end of this report if you require assistance.
Why are you redirected to sites like mobitera.online
Redirects to sites like mobitera.online and other random webpages typically happen when users visit ad-heavy websites but don’t have an adblocker program installed. Many sites deliberately spam users with questionable advertisements to generate revenue. This is especially the case with sites that host pirated or adult content. To avoid being redirected and just generally stop intrusive ads, simply install an adblocker program.
Another potential cause of random redirects could be an adware infection. While generally considered a less serious threat, adware’s main goal is to flood users with unwanted advertisements, which can quickly become very annoying. Adware, browser hijackers, and similar infections are usually installed by users via a method called software bundling. In this method, adware is bundled with free programs as optional offers. Although these offers are meant to be optional, they are preselected for installation without the user’s explicit consent. Users must manually uncheck these boxes to prevent their installations. However, this is made difficult by the fact that the offers are hidden in settings users rarely use. Due to the controversial nature of this installation method, programs that use it are frequently flagged as a potential threat by anti-virus programs.
To avoid installing junk, always install programs using Advanced (Custom) settings. The installation window will recommend Default settings, but choosing those will result in all bundled offers being installed automatically. Advanced settings, on the other hand, will show all additional offers, allowing you to uncheck the ones you don’t want to install. It’s advisable to reject all extra offers, as legitimate software typically doesn’t use this kind of installation method.
How to stop mobitera.online notifications
Run a scan on your computer with an anti-virus tool such as WiperSoft to check for any potential adware infections that could be behind the redirects. Adware can be tricky to eliminate manually, so it’s easier to use an anti-virus program. If no threats are found, the redirects you’re experiencing might be caused by the sites you’re visiting. To address this, just install an adblocker program.
