How to stop news-xofapi.com notifications?

news-xofapi.com is a highly questionable website that will spam ads if you allow it to. When you get redirected to the site, you will immediately get a browser prompt saying “news-xofapi.com wants to show notifications”. If you click “Allow”, the site will start showing you ads on your desktop.

news-xofapi.com is empty of contents, besides a stuck video player. A message will also appear saying you need to click “Allow” to continue watching. When you enter the site, you will immediately see a browser alert saying “news-xofapi.com wants to show notifications”. By clicking “Allow”, you will essentially authorize the site to spam you with ads. These ads can be disguised as system notifications to trick users into interacting with them. What’s more, these notifications appear similarly to where legitimate system notifications appear. Interacting with them is not a good idea because you could be redirected to potentially dangerous websites, such as ones promoting scams or concealing malware.

This “show notifications” feature is misused by sites like news-xofapi.com, but it is legitimate. As long as a site is safe, you can permit it to show notifications. If, for example, there’s a specific website you frequent, you can allow it to show notifications to see its content more conveniently. When you no longer want to see the notifications, you can easily revoke the site’s permission.

We strongly recommend scanning your computer with WiperSoft to check for an adware infection in case that’s what’s triggering the redirects. An adblocker program should also be installed.

What triggers redirects to sites like news-xofapi.com

In the majority of cases, redirects to sites like news-xofapi.com are triggered by questionable websites. Certain websites try to expose users to a lot of advertisement content. That means bombarding users with pop-ups, ads, and redirects. Clicking on anything on certain websites (e.g. sites that have pirated or pornographic content) can trigger a redirect. Fortunately, both ads and redirects can easily be blocked with an adblocker program.

If adware is the trigger for the redirects, they will happen regularly. You should also notice more ads in general. Fortunately, adware is a pretty minor infection, though it can become very annoying. Adware, browser hijackers, and similar infections are usually installed via the software bundling method. This method allows said infections to be added to popular free programs as extra offers. These offers are set to be installed automatically. The offers are technically optional but they need to be manually deselected to prevent users from installing them. However, this is made difficult by the fact that these offers are hidden in settings users don’t normally use. This makes software bundling a rather controversial installation method. Anti-virus programs typically detect programs that use software bundling as potential threats.

As long as you pay attention during program installation, you should be able to prevent unwanted installations without any issues. When installing a program, you will be given the option between Default and Advanced settings. The installation window always recommends using Default settings but if you use Default, the added offers will be permitted to install. Advanced settings will clearly show what offers have been added. You will also be able to deselect what you do not want. We always recommend deselecting every single offer, even if one appears useful at first glance. If you allow these installations, you will quickly fill your computer with junk programs.
