How to remove Ersonallyh.fun pop-ups
Ersonallyh.fun is one of many questionable scam websites that try to trick users into allowing desktop ads. The site misuses a legitimate browser feature that allows sites to show users notifications that would appear on the desktop. When you get redirected to the site, an alert will appear saying “Ersonallyh.fun wants to show notifications”. If you press “Allow”, ads will start appearing on your desktop.
Browsers have a feature that allows sites to show notifications on users’ desktops, provided users give permission. This has many legitimate uses, and it’s safe to grant permission to a legitimate website. The notifications depend on the content a site usually posts. For example, if you allow a news website you frequent to show notifications, it would show you alerts with important news stories. Clicking on the notification would take you directly to the news article. Whenever you no longer want to see the notifications, you can revoke the site’s permission. We will provide directions in the last section of the report.
However, allowing sites like Ersonallyh.fun to show notifications means you will be spammed with ads on your desktop. The site itself is very suspicious so there is no way that it would show legitimate notifications with content you would be interested in. Instead, it will show ads promoting questionable or even malicious advertisements. Some of those ads may also be purposely made to appear like legitimate system notifications in order to trick users into downloading something malicious.
To get to the bottom of these redirects, it’s a good idea to scan your computer with anti-virus software to see whether adware is to blame. If it’s indeed adware, redirects would stop the moment the anti-virus removes it from the computer. If it’s not adware, install an adblocker program and be more careful about what sites you visit in the future.
Adware installation methods
In certain cases, redirects to random sites like Ersonallyh.fun are caused by an adware infection. Adware is a minor infection but as you have already noticed, it can be very annoying to deal with. These kinds of infections use software bundling to install, a method that allows them to come attached to programs as extra offers and install alongside without requiring additional permission. Since it’s obviously a rather sneaky installation method, programs that use it are usually classified as potentially unwanted by anti-virus programs.
If you want to avoid installing unwanted items like adware, always pay attention when installing free programs and opt for Advanced or Custom settings if given the option. Those settings will make every added offer visible, and you will have the option to deselect everything. If you opt for Default settings, the offers will be hidden and be allowed to install alongside. It’s important to remember that most free programs will come with extra offers. So to avoid preventable infections, always deselect items added to freeware.
If it’s not adware, the sites you visit may be at fault. There is a high chance that certain sites will trigger redirects and show questionable ads. Those sites are usually ones that host pornography and pirated content. Either avoid visiting them entirely, or install adblocker.
