Delete Myknowing.biz pop-ups

Myknowing.biz is a highly questionable website that’s pushing a social engineering scam trying to trick users into agreeing to see ads on their desktops. This is a very common scam that misuses a legitimate browser feature that allows sites to send users notifications. When you get redirected to this site, a browser alert will pop-up saying “Myknowing.biz wants to show notifications”. If you click “Allow”, you will start seeing potentially dangerous ads on your desktop.

Myknowing.biz is made to appear like a sports news website in order to trick users into letting their guard down. It will display a browser pop-up asking you to allow it to show you notifications. What the alert is actually asking in this case is if you want to be spammed with ads. This is a legitimate feature that essentially allows websites to show users notifications on their desktop. It’s primarily used by news websites, as it allows them to show users alerts about important news stories directly on the desktop, and users do not need to check the site itself all the time. Loads of other legitimate sites use this feature but as long as you don’t press “Allow”, they will not be permitted to show the notifications.

The issue with this feature is that questionable sites like Myknowing.biz are misusing it to spam users with ads. Even if you click “Allow”, the ads will be harmless as long as you don’t click on them. You can also easily revoke the site’s permission to show you notifications. It’s important that you don’t click on any of the ads in the meantime, as you could end up downloading something malicious. Some of those Myknowing.biz shown “notifications” could also be made to appear like they’re legitimate system alerts, which is why some users may end up engaging with something malicious.

If you have allowed the site to show notifications, you can easily revoke that permission, and we will explain in the last section of the report. You also need to determine why you’re being redirected in the first place, as you could have adware installed. If that’s the case, you would continue to be redirected until you remove Myknowing.biz adware.

Redirects to sites like Myknowing.biz are often caused by adware

It’s not difficult to determine why you are being redirected to questionable websites like Myknowing.biz. If you browse high-risk sites, you should be aware of the fact that clicking on anything on them could trigger a redirect. Having adblocker installed can usually prevent this from happening.

However, if it’s adware you’re dealing with, you’ll need to get rid of it to stop the redirects. Fortunately, adware is not a particularly dangerous infections, more like a pest that spams you with ads. Infections like this use software bundling to install, meaning they can install unnoticed and without needing explicit permission from you. They come attached to free software as extra offers, and unless you manually deselect them, the offers are permitted to install alongside the freeware. If you want to prevent these unwanted installations, you need to use Advanced (Custom) settings during freeware installations. Those settings will not only make the offers visible but also allow you to deselect everything. When you have done that, you can continue installing the freeware.
